KIMBERLYTE RIAA Phono Stage
The Kimberlyte phono preamplifier is engineered across two independent chassis: the first dedicated entirely to the power supply, and the second to signal processing. Electrical continuity between the two enclosures is handled by a proprietary umbilical cable terminated with gold-plated D-Sub connectors. Both grounded chassis are machined from aluminum, inherently offering exceptional shielding against radio frequency interference (RFI). An additional soft-iron internal shield resides within the low-frequency audio stage, providing superior protection against low-frequency electromagnetic fields.
On the mains side, the power supply is isolated by an EMC line filter feeding the primary winding of a custom-wound toroidal transformer built strictly to our specifications. Three secondary windings individually feed two fully separated high-voltage power supplies for the left and right channels—each featuring dedicated rectification, filtering, and solid-state regulation—while the third winding supplies clean heater filaments for the low-frequency tube section as well as coil power for switching relays. Through this complete galvanic separation, the Kimberlyte RIAA preamplifier operates as a genuine dual-mono topology. The toroidal transformer is itself hermetically potted within a heavy steel shield.
The audio stage and RIAA equalization network are entrusted to three TUNG-SOL ECC803S twin triodes. In its native configuration, this active stage accommodates moving magnet (MM) cartridges. Dedicated switching allows the seamless engagement of premier Lundahl step-up transformers, opening playback to moving coil (MC) cartridges. Primary winding taps allow adjustable input impedance and step-up gain ratios, ensuring comprehensive compatibility across a broad spectrum of MC cartridges.
All printed circuit boards are double-sided through-hole (DFTM) designs on high-grade epoxy-fiberglass substrates (FR4). Every component is hand-soldered onto these boards using silver-loaded solder alloy.
Electronic topology design, mechanical chassis fabrication, and the complete assembly of the Kimberlyte are carried out in our Toulon / La Garde ateliers. All external manufacturing partners are specialized French companies operating within national borders. Component selection adheres strictly to the highest audiophile standards and complies fully with current RoHS environmental directives.
Kimberlyte, in line with every KALLYSTE creation, is backed by a 10-year warranty (vacuum tubes excluded).
