Jean-Pierre, Toulon — Defi & Duel

“Just as I sensed back in mid-May during an exclusive preview session at KALLYSTE with the Amethyste headphone amplifier, it is carving out its own space in the crowded hi-fi landscape. It commands respect from professionals and discerning enthusiasts alike through its exemplary reproduction fidelity. Its oversized power supply and uncompromising engineering leave no doubt as to its superiority.

This is the fruit of Pascal Curin’s relentless dedication, from a blank sheet of paper to the finished instrument.

During my audition with the renowned yet demanding HIFIMAN Susvara headphones, I rediscovered every sensation of organic naturalness and dynamic authority that makes Diptyque Audio isodynamic ribbon panels so dear to my heart—powered by the Duel / Defi trio from… KALLYSTE!

The Amethyste is an absolute must-audition for anyone passionate about headphone listening, as well as for those seeking to drive loudspeakers without multiplying separate boxes.

Staying true to this ethos, KALLYSTE offers a stereo power amplifier (Albedo) and monoblocks (Duel) built to identical standards. KALLYSTE is an artisanal house, but a true heavyweight in high fidelity.”

“Pairing the system with an Auralic Aries G2.1 streamer (far more musical than the Aries G2 I previously owned) allowed your amplifier to reveal its formidable qualities with effortless ease. I found:

  • Exceptional transparency,

  • Absolute bass control (even on notoriously unruly tracks),

  • Remarkable soundstaging and spatial precision,

  • Gorgeous tonal textures,

  • Lightning-fast transient attacks and dynamic swings (it snaps, it swings).

Yet there is zero aggressiveness, zero harshness—the intrinsic beauty of every timbre is faithfully preserved (calling to mind an iron fist in a velvet glove).

In short, an exquisite piece of craftsmanship…

Thank you for your outstanding work.”

“Some audiophiles build their systems step by step; others start completely from scratch; others rotate gear constantly, sharing their findings so the whole community can grow and learn.

What unites us is the visceral quest for the audiophile Holy Grail. For me, it is the desire to be pierced to the core by pure emotion. Why mention this? For several years, I had been searching for an amplifier, preamplifier, or integrated unit capable of truly doing justice to our Rockport Technologies Mira II loudspeakers.

I had caught glimpses of their potential at shows and in dealer showrooms, but had never managed to recreate that magic in our own living room.

Should I go solid-state? Tubes? A hybrid combining the best of both worlds? Upgrade the front end? I explored digital sources, then returned to the fundamentals.

Through countless forum discussions and research, I came across Laurent’s thread speaking in glowing terms of KALLYSTE.

Hard to believe, but Laurent offered to arrange an in-home audition with the designer himself, bringing the Duel monoblocks and the Défi preamplifier directly to our speakers. We hesitated for a moment, but curiosity won out and the date was set.

What a pleasure to meet two French designers wholly devoted to music: Pascal from KALLYSTE, Nathalie from Whynot (accompanied by her dog Chanel), and once again the genuine warmth of meeting alongside Laurent. Before going further, I want to salute their kindness, their generosity with their time, and their willingness to share their deep expertise. Listening to a master engineer explain his vision is always inspiring. Pascal is a technical encyclopedia on a singular mission: uncompromised, unadorned perfection.

Within minutes, they fine-tuned our speaker placement, dramatically improving center-stage focus and vocal presence. Pascal and Nathalie then pointed out other acoustic variables that speaker placement alone could never resolve. We couldn’t agree more. Before discussing the listening impressions, I wanted to clarify a few technical points raised on this forum thread. I can confirm these monoblocks feature:

  • Class A/B operation—and what an execution of Class A/B it is;

  • 100 watts, but 100 real RMS watts capable of driving the most tortuous loads imaginable. Ours are 88 dB—not the most brutal load, but they demand serious current to sing;

  • RCA / WBT connectors of the highest caliber—no corners cut, purely sublime hardware;

  • Solid-state output blocks paired with a dual-chassis vacuum tube preamplifier (pentodes);

  • Craftsmanship worthy of haute horlogerie, using only premium-grade materials;

  • A compact footprint that defies prevailing high-end excess.

It is also worth emphasizing that everything is manufactured and assembled by hand in France, with Pascal commanding the entire production chain. Another crucial point: these instruments carry a 10-year warranty—a rarity in this industry. Every chassis is machined in-house: an exquisite display of meticulous artisanal craftsmanship.

I have immense respect for Pascal’s uncompromising stance on his flagship creations, investing whatever time and research is required to fulfill his vision and the intended musical outcome.

Now, onto what matters most: the audition.

Quite simply, we were overwhelmed, captivated, and moved to tears. I knew the potential of our speakers, but never imagined this level of performance. Real tears, raw emotion, and the undeniable presence of live music:

  • The audio equipment vanishes entirely; you live solely for and through the performance.

  • The stage is holographic, with individual layers and planes clearly resolved.

  • Subtle details emerge that had gone unnoticed until now.

  • Instruments ring true. A bell sounds like a bell; the same goes for cymbals, the pluck of an acoustic guitar, the drag of fingertips across strings, the weighted strike of a grand piano hammer… The speakers reproduce the finest nuance and physical density of each instrument with pinpoint accuracy.

  • Vocals and midrange presence are genuinely hypnotic—you hear the texture of the voice, the singer’s breath, the quietest murmur of backing vocalists.

  • The upper midrange defies words. We played a Maria Callas piece and chills ran through the room. The crescendos soared effortlessly without strain or ceiling. I had never experienced anything like it.

  • Note sustain and background silences are nothing short of authoritative.

  • Low and sub-bass reach subterranean depths; the Duel monoblocks feel completely bottomless. Even more astonishing: despite their compact enclosures, they barely generate heat.

  • Dynamic attacks strike with visceral, lightning-fast impact.

  • The system imparts zero coloration. It delivers exactly what your source feeds it. The flip side: poor recordings are exposed without mercy.

It felt as though our speakers had grown two or three sizes larger—height, width, and depth expanded dramatically. We auditioned an eclectic mix of musical genres, and every single track flowed effortlessly.

Bear in mind, the tubes weren’t even burned in yet, which hints at the untapped headroom still to come. Astonishingly, from the second you flip the switch, you are stunned—before the system has even reached operating temperature, and running on standard stock power cords.

I could speak about this for hours. We have heard massive systems—some cohesive, others decidedly not—and delightful smaller setups, but never anything that approached this benchmark.

I once read a comment on KALLYSTE’s Facebook page stating: ‘Pascal Curin is a creator of pure emotion.’ To me, that captures the entire soul of KALLYSTE.

This is purely my perspective within my own system, but KALLYSTE is the absolute pinnacle. Achieving anything close would require spending substantially more, with no guarantee of ever touching the divine. Long live KALLYSTE and Pascal Curin.

If you have the opportunity, do not hesitate to schedule an audition with KALLYSTE.

For us, turning back was impossible—we took a quantum leap into the music and kept both the monoblocks and the preamplifier.

Happy listening to all.”

Jean-Marc, Font-Romeu — Duel

“These electronics venture far off the beaten track. Miles away from tired industry stereotypes, one single listening session is all it takes to understand.”

Sylvain, Grenoble (Hi-Fi Forum Excerpt) — Amethyste & Albedo One

“Curious to discover the brand and its creations, I was invited to their listening room, where I was particularly interested in evaluating the Quasar / Albedo One combination.

The welcome was warm and deeply passionate. Pascal and Nathalie share their expertise and devotion without reservation. A world apart from retail stores stacking whichever references happen to trend without any regard for system synergy, their approach won me over instantly.

The acoustic signature struck me right away. Coherence, dynamic swing, transient speed, and natural flow—superlatives thrown around all too casually elsewhere, but here the hardware, pricing, and specs simply melt away, leaving you to focus solely on musical pleasure.

In short: I was blown away. That means a great deal coming from someone who is anything but a novice on the audiophile and music-lover journey…

By the end of the day, I ordered a Quasar, which was delivered and set up in my home with that very same passion and generous dialogue!

It is deeply gratifying and reassuring to know that houses of KALLYSTE’s caliber still exist today.

What if KALLYSTE electronics were simply the most resolved and efficient instruments on the market today?”

Frédéric, Switzerland — Defi & Duel

“Hello, I am sharing this from direct, firsthand experience: I have been a devoted ‘Kallystophile’ for ten good years now, and I can say without hesitation that this is the most serious proposition in the high-fidelity landscape.

Etymologically, ‘high fidelity’ consists of two pillars that KALLYSTE honors with the utmost reverence:

  1. ‘High’: For KALLYSTE, schematic architecture, component selection, calibration, and test-bench measurements are executed with forensic precision and zero compromise. Across any given operating parameter, if the finest capacitor in the world exists, that is precisely what you will find inside a KALLYSTE instrument.

  2. ‘Fidelity’: This concept is held sacred at KALLYSTE. Countless hours of critical listening tests across fine circuit adjustments and component pairings have guided KALLYSTE toward its North Star: reproducing the true sound of an instrument with absolute, uncompromising transparency—adding nothing, subtracting nothing. The result is a faithful, vibrant, lifelike, and deeply authentic presentation that stirs dormant emotion.

KALLYSTE’s partners fully share this philosophy—from bespoke cabling by Whynot, designed by Nathalie Fougues with an attentive ear and proven engineering (such as active cable shielding), to the magnificent Italian loudspeaker manufacturer Zingali with their extraordinary horn-loaded designs. In listening tests, even the most compact monitor in their range (the Zero 6M) sounds anything but small in terms of scale, presence, and fidelity.

Give yourself the opportunity to put my words to the test by visiting a KALLYSTE audition room. I would be delighted to exchange impressions with you, and I have zero doubt: what you will discover is magnificent and unforgettable.

Audiophilically yours,

Frédéric”
